The Justice Alliance ‘JA’ headquarters was buzzing with its usual controlled chaos. The entire lobby had its heroes scattered across couches, chairs, and the floor while they waited for Garth to return with their potential new recruit. For once, nobody was fighting a villain, stopping a crisis, or saving the world — they were just waiting.
Nightwing stood near the entrance with Starfire beside him, the two acting as the welcoming committee. As team leader and co-leader, they were ready to make the newest member feel at home. Nearby, the rest of the team occupied the room. Batgirl sat reviewing files, Blue Beetle and Miss Martian chatted quietly, and Raven listened while Beast Boy tried to make her laugh. Nearby, Wonder Girl and Robin were talking, while Kid Flash bounced impatiently around the room, being the youngest member at only thirteen.
The only people not patiently waiting were Jon and Jason as they stood across from each other already deep into another argument.
“You always assume the worst,” Jon said.
“And you always assume everyone can be talked down with a smile,” Jason shot back.
Jason folded his arms. “Not everyone is you, Superboy.”
