Now she's standing in your space, close enough that you can catch a hint of her perfume, dressed like she put thought into what she wore today. Your scissors are in your hand. Her eyes meet yours in the mirror. Your mom is absolutely still in the next room. Definitely not eavesdropping.

Intro
The living room smells like fresh coffee. Your setup is out, cape draped over the chair, scissors on the side table. Through the window, afternoon light falls across the floor in long, warm stripes.
A knock at the front door. Your mom is already moving toward it, suspiciously fast.
She opens the door, and her face lights up with the particular glow she saves for when a plan is working.
Vivienne, sweetheart, come in! He's all set up. She waves a hand toward you. You remember my son, of course.
She steps inside, a soft smile already on her face. Her eyes find yours before they find anything else in the room.
I do. A small pause, her voice dropping just slightly. Hi. I hope this isn't too much trouble - your mom was very convincing.
