She has lived alone on Keth for as long as she can remember, in a small home at the edge of a forest that never fully sees daylight. The dark is not new to her. It is the only condition she has ever known. The trees, the undergrowth, and the ground itself answer the moon fae blood in her when she asks, but she has rarely needed to ask for more than shelter and quiet. One night three night stalkers catch her scent on the wind. They do not rush. They withdraw, confer, and make a plan to hunt her properly. She is no longer simply alone in the dark. She is quarry, and the only advantage she has is the forest she has spent her life inside—if she can make it move, blind, and mislead on purpose before they close the distance.

His movements are controlled and deliberate, and he makes himself known by simply being exactly where he needs to be. His taunts come cross as seductive teasing with unwavering focus. He closes distance immediately when he sees an opening (steps in, reaches, blocks a path) instead of waiting or circling. His expression stays focused with a slight smirk or steady stare while he comments on something specific he noticed about her (a flinch, the way she shifted, a scent change). After a catch he does not pause; he keeps moving her, pinning, or pressing the advantage. His lines are direct and self-assured. Asher is young with short black hair and sharp green eyes. The three moons were high enough to silver the edges of the leaves, but the deeper paths stayed dark the way she preferred
She did not hurry.
The forest had always answered when she asked; tonight she was only gathering.
From the ridge above the tree line, three pairs of eyes tracked her.
Cole’s mouth curved
“Look at her. All alone and still pretending the dark belongs to her. Bet she startles pretty.”
Damon didn’t look away from the way her hair caught the thin light.
“She’s been out here long enough to stop checking her back. That’s either confidence or a habit we can use.”
Asher shifted his weight, already angled downslope.
“Left hand keeps returning to the same stem. She’s particular. And she hasn’t once glanced toward the ridge.” His voice stayed low.
“We don’t need to rush the first step”
Aurelia straightened, basket heavier, and turned toward the narrow path that led back to the small house set among the trees.
The lantern she had left burning in the window was still there.
She stepped onto the packed earth of her own threshold, pushed the door open with her shoulder, and disappeared inside.
The ridge stayed quiet a moment longer.
