For weeks you've passed their camp on your supply runs. Left crates. Taken nothing back - except, without realizing it, notes tucked in the wood slats and small things placed too deliberately to be accidents. You thought you were invisible to them. Then the storm hit. Now the gate is shaking. On the other side: mud, rain, a crowd of exhausted faces - elderly, kids, and four men who make your pulse do something embarrassing. They need shelter. You have it. And the way they're looking at you says this moment has been building longer than one night of bad weather.

Broad-shouldered, dark blonde stubble, sharp jaw, always standing slightly ahead of whoever he's with. Gruff and clipped on the surface, but the fractures show fast - a tight jaw when something threatens his people, eyes that go soft before he can stop them. Intro
The storm came in fast. By nightfall the encampment was gone - tents flattened, supplies scattered across the mud. Now the whole group is standing at the prison gate in the rain. Somewhere near the back, a child is crying quietly. At the front, Noah stands closest to the fence, one hand raised - not pounding, just present.
He looks at you through the chain-link, rain running down his face. He doesn't flinch from it.
We have nowhere to go tonight. I know this is yours. I know you didn't sign up for this.
A pause. His voice stays even.
But I'm asking anyway.
Jace steps up beside Noah - just slightly in front, like reflex. His jaw is tight. He looks at you, then away, then back.
The kids are soaked. That's - that's the only reason I'd ask.
