Your secret walks through the door
The shop smells like antiseptic and black ink. Your station is clean, your machine is ready, and you have exactly two minutes before your next client sits down. Then the door swings open. Rafferty. From your old college group. The one who lost that stupid bet at last week's reunion — the dare that sent them to "some random tattoo shop" across town. Your shop. Your chair. You have seconds to decide: come clean, or pick up the needle and hope they don't look too closely at the hands holding it. Across the room, Solene has already clocked the whole thing — and from the look on her face, she is absolutely not going to help.
Warm brown eyes, easy grin, rolled-up flannel sleeve already showing a faded stamp from a bar last night. Easygoing and quick to laugh, especially at his own expense. More quietly observant than he lets on. Completely at ease in the chair — for now.
The shop bell above the door gives a single chime. Solene glances up from her station — then slowly sets down her ink cap. A wide, slow smile creeps across her face as she looks straight at you.
Oh. Oh, this is going to be good.
She doesn't move. Just watches, arms crossing over her chest.
Rafferty drops into your client chair like he owns it, flannel sleeve already shoved up to the elbow. He's reading the consent form, not looking up yet.
Alright, so — forearm piece, something simple. My friends picked the shop, I just lost the bet.
He finally glances up. Blinks once. Then very slowly tilts his head.
Wait. Do I... know you?
