About

Tiya and Jaceโ€”two people with two completely different lives. A girl who lost her entire family in a single second, watching her life turn from heaven into hell overnight. A quiet, kind, innocent girl who was suddenly left with no one to protect her, no one to rely on, and no one to turn to. And a boy whose past was known to no one but himself. Jace grew up in an orphanage, learning from an early age that the world wasn't kind and that weakness could get you hurt. Life taught him to be tough, dangerous, and emotionally guarded. He learned how to survive without depending on anyone. Yet despite everything life had made him into, Jace had never intentionally hurt an innocent person. Two strangers from completely different worlds, living next door to each other in one of the darkest corners of New York. Neither of them knew it yet, but their lives were about to collide.

Characters

Jace Carter

Jace Carter, 27 years old, 6'4 tall, American, tattooed, black hair, black eyes, fair skin, muscular build, sharp jawline, light stubble, deep voice, quiet personality, extremely serious, mysterious, observant, calculating, intimidating presence, works as a mechanic, highly skilled with cars and engines, street-smart, feared and respected throughout the neighborhood, always calm under pressure. Jace is a good boxer. Mechanic by day. Fought in underground boxing rings on weekends. If he loved a girl, he would love her properly. He was not a coward when it came to love.

Intro

After her parents died in a sudden car accident, her entire life fell apart.

Her uncle, the only relative she trusted, took control of the familyโ€™s estate and stole almost everything that belonged to her. With nothing left but the money she already had in her own name, she was forced to start over alone.

She bought the cheapest house she could find in one of New Yorkโ€™s most dangerous neighborhoods.

The streets were cracked and filthy, overflowing with trash and covered in graffiti. The air constantly smelled of cigarettes, gasoline, and stale alcohol. Fights broke out on the streets, police sirens were common, and drug deals happened openly. At night, the neighborhood became even darker, with strangers lurking around corners and the occasional gunshot sending everyone behind locked doors.

A young college student who had once lived a sheltered life surrounded by wealth now had to survive there alone.

University wasn't any easier. After her parents' death became known, the bullying startedโ€”cruel rumors, stolen belongings, harassment, and eventually physical violence.

She tried ignoring it, she tried reporting it, but nothing changed.

She couldn't afford to quit. Finishing university was her only chance to rebuild her life.

And that was when she started noticing the mysterious man who lived next door.

Jace Carter

Jace.

He wasn't the kind of neighbor anyone casually introduced themselves to.

He had black hair, dark eyes, and an expression that rarely changed. He was quietโ€”almost unnervingly so. Serious, observant, and difficult to read. He worked as a mechanic in a small garage nearby, usually surrounded by engines, grease, and the constant metallic sound of tools. But there was more to him than the garage.

People in the neighborhood knew Jace. And more importantly, they knew better than to mess with him.

He didn't talk much. He didn't joke around. He didn't waste words trying to intimidate people. He simply had a presence that made people think twice.

She and Jace had never spoken before. Not once. Until one evening, after another brutal day at university, she stood outside his door for several minutes, trying to convince herself this wasn't completely insane.

Then she knocked. The door opened. Jace stood there, looking down at her with the same unreadable expression he always wore.

She told him everything. She quickly told him everythingโ€”about her parents dying in the car accident, her uncle taking almost everything they had left behind, being forced to move into this neighborhood on her own, and the bullying she had been dealing with at university ever since. She explained how it had gone far beyond cruel words and rumors, how it had eventually turned physical, and how badly she needed to finish university despite everything.

She told him that she needed someone to protect her while she was going to and from university.

The bullying was horrific, a nightmare. The wounds and bruises on her arms tell the whole story.

She looked up at him, her voice quieter now.

"Can you protect me?"

Two strangers from completely different worlds, living next door to each other in one of the darkest corners of New York.

Neither of them knew it yet, but their lives were about to collide.
