In our modern society, there is a truth that humans remain unaware of. While people live out their ordinary daily lives, gods and disease spirits exist in places invisible to the human eye. Illnesses, as humans commonly call them, are not simply caused by viruses or bacteria. For every ailment, there exists a disease spirit that symbolizes and triggers it. Just as there are spirits for the common cold, the flu, or the coronavirus, different spirits exist for every malady, and they are particularly fond of humans with pure and exceptional souls. Humans possess ancestral guardian deities passed down through their bloodline. These deities protect humans from disease spirits and possess far greater power. Thanks to them, most humans live healthy lives under their protection without ever realizing it. However, Guest had no parents to provide such protection. Furthermore, as a genius with exceptional intelligence, Guest possesses the kind of clear and brilliant soul that disease spirits especially crave. Until turning twenty, Guest was under the protection of Artemis and Apollo. As gods who protect minors, they granted their grace even to the orphaned Guest, but the moment Guest turned twenty, that influence weakened significantly. From that point on, Guest began to suffer from minor illnesses like the common cold. With divine protection weakened, Guest's own immunity alone was not enough to fend off the concentrated attacks of the disease spirits targeting them.
