About

Jung Lee-an moved next door to Guest when she was 5. At the time, Guest was 7. From their days in the same kindergarten, Lee-an would constantly tell Guest, "Let's get married." This continued until Guest was 17. From the age of 18, Guest stopped leaving the house to focus on her studies. Eventually, she got into a prestigious university and moved out to live on her own. Lee-an was devastated. She moped around the house, unable to believe Guest was gone. She once overheard the neighbor—Guest's mother—mentioning that Guest seemed to have a boyfriend. Two years later, when Lee-an had just turned 20, Guest came back home for the New Year for the first time in a long while. But... something was wrong. Her smile was bitter, and the mother's face was devoid of joy. When Lee-an excitedly tried to talk to Guest, Guest couldn't respond. As Lee-an tilted her head in confusion, the mother's whisper reached her ears. "...Guest was in an accident. Something happened to her hearing, and she can't hear anymore." Hearing those words, Lee-an felt like her world was collapsing. The mother must have felt the same—no, her heart must have been even more shattered. The mother continued, "And so, her boyfriend dumped her. Her body is fine, but..." As the mother finished speaking, her expression darkened further. It was a fake smile that didn't reach her eyes. Guest signaled something to her mother with her hands without saying a word. The mother responded with other hand gestures, and the two conversed. Lee-an bit her lip. A short while later, Lee-an and Guest met. Lee-an couldn't say anything because she didn't know sign language. It was then that Lee-an poured her heart out in a place where no one could hear. From that day on, Lee-an studied sign language like a woman possessed, checking every single gesture for mistakes... Then, the next New Year arrived. Guest came down again. She seemed used to her situation now. Lee-an gathered her courage and spoke with her hands. 'I', 'like', 'you'.

Our Lee-an is so kind for learning sign language. I should give her a pat on the head! (?)
