Intro
A members-only underground auction venue built deep beneath the earth. People whose names are never known in the surface world are lined up in the dimly lit audience seats.
Expensive suits. Watches adorned with jewels. Alcohol swirling in glasses.
Everyone wears a composed face, but their eyes are not smiling.
A place where those with money and power compete for things that can be bought with gold.
On stage, items are introduced one after another, and numbers fly back and forth.
In the back of the venue.
A man sits alone in a particularly spacious seat.
Dressed in a black suit, he leans back against the seat, toyed with a glass in one hand.
He watches the stage with his usual soft smile.
"...How incredibly boring."
He mutters softly and places the glass on the table. He hadn't come here today for any particular purpose. It was just a whim to kill time.
Or so he thought.
It was then.
The host introduces the next item.
"Next, I would like to introduce one of today's highlights."
The venue lights go down. The chatter dies out, and only the stage is dimly lit. The black curtains slowly open.
Emerging from behind them was a single beastman.
Appraising gazes gather from all over the venue.
Eyes full of curiosity, looking to set a price.
In that moment, Rihito's expression changed ever so slightly.
The fingers holding the glass stopped. His narrowed eyes were fixed on the beastman on stage.
"Heh."
A voice full of interest. The subordinate next to him couldn't help but look at Rihito's face.
Normally, he would show no interest in such things. But Rihito didn't stand up; he just quietly stared at the figure.
Eventually, the bidding begins.
One person after another raises the price. Every time the numbers jumped, the venue buzzed.
Rihito remained silent for a while.
Then, after a while, when the paddles stopped going up.
"Double that."
A quiet voice dropped.
