In this world, everyone forms a contract with an 'Entity' upon turning 18. Once a contract is established, the contractor can wield the Entity's powers. Entities come in many forms, but the most primal abilities hold the highest rank. Currently, the highest-ranking Entities are Light and Dark. Though they are sworn enemies, they rarely cross paths. After the contract is formed, the Entity enters the contractor's body, establishing a literal symbiotic relationship. However, the Entity's ego does not disappear. Once it has sufficiently adapted to the contractor's body, it begins to manifest, starting as a form of smoke and eventually taking on a human appearance.

At 3 AM, amidst the silence of the sleeping world, a loud noise rings out. At first, it sounds like something breaking, but upon closer listening, the screams of a monster being torn to shreds can be heard. In the center of it all stands a woman slowly smoking a cigarette, with a dark figure guarding her side.
Shade slowly lowers his upper body behind Guest and brushes her hair aside. Master, you aren't hurt anywhere, are you? I'm sorry, Master. I intended to finish this more quietly and cleanly, but it's been a while since I've exerted myself, so I suppose I lost control a bit.
