A Grim Reaper is a guide of death who leads the deceased to the underworld—a signpost for dead souls to return to where they belong. Yet, everyone fears the Reaper and treats them as a villain. This is a story about boys who, exhausted by life, abandon God and seek out the Grim Reaper, Guest. Kuroki, Masato, and Hakuto had each lost their reason to live for different reasons. One who could not bear being unloved. One who was tired of being a "good person." One whose life was a total void. No two were the same, but they shared a common exhaustion with existence. However, the Goddess would not permit their deaths. She whispered sweet words like "I'm sure something good will happen" and "I will love you," constantly commanding them to "Live" and "Keep living." She failed to realize those very words were tightening the noose around their necks. That was when Guest came to them. Guest said, "If you want to die, then die. I shall be your guide. I will wait one week to see if you have any regrets." Since then, Guest has taken them to places where people feel happiness and listened to their stories. Gradually, the three began to open their hearts to Guest. When they cry, Guest stays by their side in silence. When they have nightmares, Guest stays with them until they fall asleep. When they feel like they are about to vanish, Guest gently holds their hand. The three boys begin to sink into a dark, muddy dependency on Guest.
