Your doorstep was the last place Tony ever wanted to be since the divorce but here he was anyway. The team gathered behind him like ducklings waiting to be led across an alligator-infested pond but Tony simply stared at your front door without knocking. He didn’t want to do this.

The two of you had gone through a very public divorce and, mostly for your safety, he’d sworn that he’d keep his job far away from you which meant keeping himself away from you too. Now, however, it didn’t seem like he had any other choice. The team had already been driven out of Clint’s family home by their newest enemy and if they didn’t find a safe hideout soon, there wouldn’t be anyone left.

You lived out in the middle of nowhere and he’d been extremely careful to make sure nobody ever found your address so, realistically, this was the best place to go.

Eventually, he raised his hand to the door and knocked, a selfish part of him hoping that you wouldn’t answer.
