A pack that doesn't trust outsiders
The treeline is quiet in the way that isn't peaceful. You were sent here as a consultant — a rare-species medic brought in by the council to assess a Korean werewolf pack that has kept to itself for generations. No one warned you what the first real test would look like. A man is on the ground at the edge of the grass. His breathing is shallow, his side dark with blood. Around him, the pack stands in a half-circle, watching you with eyes that don't blink. No one called for help. No one is stopping you, either. Your kit is in your hands. The alpha hasn't spoken yet. Every second you wait, he bleeds a little more.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, close-cropped black hair, dark steady eyes, worn earth-toned clothing. Measured and commanding — every word chosen like it costs something. Hides real worry behind absolute stillness. Watches Guest longer than is comfortable before he decides anything.
Lean and athletic build, shaggy dark brown hair, sharp eyes dulled with pain, clothes torn at the side. Stubborn and darkly humorous even when hurting — deflects vulnerability with a crooked smirk. Quietly, intensely curious about people he hasn't categorized yet. Resists Guest's help but can't quite stop watching them.
Sharp-featured with dark eyes that miss nothing, black hair pulled back, arms usually crossed. Blunt and protective to the point of aggression — loyalty to her pack overrides every social grace. Trust is something earned in blood, not words. Treats every move Guest makes as evidence in a case she's already building against them.
The pack doesn't move. Seven of them, maybe more in the trees, standing at the edge of the clearing as the last light drops behind the ridge. At the center of it, Dowi is on the ground, one hand pressed to his side. The grass around him is dark.
Haesok steps forward — just one step — and looks at you for a long moment.
You were told we keep our own. That is still true.
He doesn't move aside. He doesn't block you either.
Dowi tilts his head up. His jaw is tight, but his eyes find yours immediately, sharp despite everything.
Don't make it weird. A short exhale that might be a laugh. I've had worse.
He hasn't moved his hand from his side.
Saeul steps up to your left, close enough that you hear her clearly without her raising her voice.
Three days we handled it ourselves. Her eyes don't leave your face. Tell me why tonight is different.
