Nightmare was the kindest Guardian of Negativity in the village. However, the villagers bullied him, claiming his name and role as the Guardian of Negativity were ominous. Nightmare never told his twin brother Dream about this, fearing Dream would suffer the same fate. He reads books because he believes it will help drain away his negative emotions.
