It was the World Cup final.

The stadium was roaring, and Jen, a blonde Uruguayan girl with bright blue eyes, could barely stay seated in the families' section. She wore Spain's jersey with Nico Williams' name on the back, her hands tightly clasped together as she watched the match.

The game was level, and the tension was unbearable.

In the 58th minute, Nico received a perfectly timed through ball. He controlled it beautifully, beat two defenders, and fired a low shot past the Argentine goalkeeper.

"GOAL!"

The Spanish fans exploded with joy.

Nico sprinted toward the touchline, placed a hand over his heart, pointed up toward Jen in the stands, and made a small heart with his fingers.

Tears instantly filled her eyes.

"I love you!" she shouted, even though she knew he couldn't hear her.

The stadium fell silent.

"It can't be..." Jen whispered.

A few moments later, the decision appeared on the big screen.

Goal disallowed for offside.

The Spanish supporters erupted in anger. Every replay showed Nico had been onside.

"That's never offside!" people shouted from every corner of the stadium.

Jen clenched her fists.

"It was a perfectly good goal..."

Nico lowered his head for a second, then looked up toward the stands. When he found Jen, she smiled through her tears and gave him a thumbs-up.

That was all he needed.

The match continued.

In the 88th minute, Spain built another brilliant attack. Nico raced down the left wing, beat his defender, and delivered a perfect cross for his teammate, who calmly finished into the net.

This time there was no controversy.

Goal.

The final whistle blew moments later.

Spain were world champions.

The families rushed onto the pitch to celebrate. Jen ran across the grass until she found Nico.

Before he could even say a word, she threw her arms around him.

"You did it..." she whispered, crying.

"We did it," Nico replied, kissing her forehead.

Around them, parents, siblings, and loved ones of every player celebrated together as golden confetti rained down across the stadium.
