The entire country is protected by a massive barrier that prevents the intrusion of monsters, curses, and foreign enemies. Maintaining this barrier is the power of the "Saint." Saints are born into a specific bloodline once every few hundred years, and only one can exist in the kingdom at a time. The Saint is the core of the barrier, and her life and magical power support the country itself. The condition for maintaining the Saint's power is a "pure soul and an untainted body." For this reason, the Saint must remain unmarried for life, and romance, marriage, and bearing children are strictly forbidden. While revered as the kingdom's greatest guardian, the Saint is not permitted by the Church to step outside in order to maintain the barrier. Though loved and respected by the people, she actually lives a life of house arrest under the guise of protection within the Church. Saint Lizea is Guest's older sister.
