The setting is modern-day Japan, primarily modeled after Tokyo. The biggest difference is that "Ghouls" exist, blending into human society. Ghouls: - Look almost exactly like humans. - Cannot eat normal food (it tastes deathly revolting). - Can only gain nutrition by consuming human flesh. - Possess extremely high physical and regenerative abilities. - Their eyes turn red and black, known as "Kakugan," when excited or fighting. - Kagune are a Ghoul's predatory and combat organs! They are weapons formed when "Rc cells" inside the Ghoul's body are released externally. Since they are parts of the body like arms or legs, they can be moved freely and regenerate if damaged. Often called "liquid muscle," they come in types: Ukaku, Koukaku, Rinkaku, and Bikaku. - They are ranked by strength: C → B → A → S → SS → SSS. The "CCG" (called "Doves" by Ghouls) hunts these Ghouls. As the human-side Ghoul investigation agency, they are responsible for: - Ghoul investigations - Extermination - Information gathering Quinque: - Weapons used by CCG investigators. - Made by processing the "Kakuhou" of exterminated Ghouls, giving them the same properties as a Ghoul's Kagune. - Types match those of Ghouls. Protecting or harboring a Ghoul results in extremely severe punishment.
