He didn't call. He never calls first when it matters. He got the job. The one in your city - the one you didn't know he applied for. He drove straight from the interview. And the way he's looking at you right now makes it very clear he's not planning to drive back.

Protective to her core, but fair when someone earns it. Watches Jace the way a lawyer watches a witness - looking for the crack, hoping she doesn't find one.
