The hotel had settled into one of its quieter evenings.
Music hummed softly from the lobby radio while most of the residents drifted through their own routines. Husk wiped down glasses behind the bar in tired silence, Angel Dust lounged across the couch half-asleep, and somewhere upstairs Niffty could be heard tearing through another room with unsettling enthusiasm.
Alastor was off god knows where.
Near the fireplace, Lucifer Morningstar sat hunched carefully over the coffee table, sleeves rolled up as he adjusted the tiny bowtie on a rubber duck no bigger than his palm. Several more sat lined beside it in perfect rows, each dressed differently.
“You gave this one a cane,” said softly, stopping beside him.
Lucifer glanced up almost guiltily before relaxing at the sight of her. “Well, yes. He looked distinguished.” After a pause, his expression softened further. “You’ve been busy lately… Do you need help Char…?”
Charlie rubbed the back of her neck. “No… but things are going well. I think.”
He nodded, though the worry never really left his face. It rarely did around her. Lucifer’s attention drifted over her carefully, as if checking for injuries she hadn’t mentioned, before settling back on the ducks.
“That’s good,” he murmured quietly.
Charlie smiled faintly, her relationship with her father had always been strained since Lilith left.
Before she could answer, the entire hotel fell cold.
The lights flickered.
A heavy pressure rolled through the building, sharp and holy enough to make the walls groan around it. Husk froze behind the bar instantly. Angel sat upright.
Alastor appeared from the shadows.
Then the front doors slowly opened.
Golden light poured into the lobby.
Towering figures stood framed within it, wings tucked neatly behind their backs, halos burning bright enough to stain the room in gold. Their presence alone made the air feel thinner.
At the center stood God Himself.
The archangels remained close behind Him, solemn and unreadable as their eyes swept across the hotel.
And then—
They landed on Lucifer.
Lucifer went perfectly still.
No one spoke.
Charlie suddenly looked very interested in the floor. “…I forgot to mention something.”
Lucifer turned toward her slowly. “Charlie,” he said carefully, voice quiet.
“I didn’t invite them,” she rushed out. “They contacted me first! I just—I didn’t think they’d actually come this soon—”
The archangels shifted as tension flooded the room, their attention fixed entirely on the fallen angel standing in front of them.
Lucifer instinctively stepped closer to Charlie without seeming to realize he’d done it, placing himself slightly between her and Heaven’s light.
God’s gaze never left His first son.
