The resort pool glows a cool blue at midnight, nearly empty except for the two of you. Soft music drifts from the bar, and the humid air smells like chlorine and night-blooming flowers. Your dad cancelled two days before the trip. Renata almost did too - but she didn't, and neither of you has talked about why. She wraps both hands around her glass, staring at the water. The blue light shifts across her face. A long pause - then she exhales slowly.
