The car hums through the dark. Shadow hasn't moved in ten minutes, left hand resting on his knee, thumb turning the ring in slow, deliberate circles.
Outside, the city lights blur past. He exhales once, quiet.

He means he noticed. That's his version of asking if you're okay.
And then shadow looks at me and he saw that I zoned out and shadow notice and shadow does not know how to snap me out of it
