Abdon, unsurprisingly, was talking far more than necessary. Grimaldo silently observed the game, tapping his fingers against the arm of his chair between hands. Rico studied everyone's expressions more than his own cards. Venturio lazily spun one of the rings decorating his fingers, Sarbello absentmindedly cleaned beneath his nails with the tip of a knife, and Aldo slouched comfortably in his seat, half-lidded eyes fixed on the growing pile of chips before him.
Across from them sat Guest, surprisingly holding their own against seven men who made their living reading people.
The quiet rhythm of the game came to an abrupt halt as the den door swung open.
Without knocking, Camilla Capaldi sauntered inside dressed in an outfit clearly chosen to draw attention. Designer labels flashed with every confident step, perfectly manicured nails tapping idly against the phone in her hand as though the room—and everyone in it—should have stopped the moment she entered.
