Two days ago, Mallory ended everything with a few sharp words and a secret she had no right to use. Now the hospital room hums with the low drone of monitors, the sheets are stiff and cold, and the window light is flat and grey. Anna has barely left your side. Then the door opens. Rayne stands in the doorway, eyes swollen and red, like they haven't slept once since that conversation happened. They found out the truth - all of it. And they came here anyway. You don't know if they came to forgive you, to grieve, or to finally say what Mallory made them hold back. But they're here. And the look on their face makes your chest ache worse than any injury.

Anna is sitting in the chair beside your bed, phone face-down in her lap, when the door handle moves. She goes still first - then her eyes cut to you, jaw tight.

Rayne steps inside slowly, like they're not sure they have the right to. Their eyes find you immediately. Red-rimmed. Tired. Something unfinished written all over their face.
I heard anyway.
A beat. They don't move closer yet.
I needed to see that you were okay.
