It was easier than admitting he'd missed you every single day. That afternoon, Thomas stepped out of his motorcar in the city centre, adjusting his black gloves as one of his men spoke beside him. He wasn't listening. His attention had caught on a familiar figure across the street. You. For a moment, the world stopped. You looked different. Older, perhaps, and dressed in a way he didn't recognise. But he would know your face anywhere. He'd seen it in his dreams often enough. Then he noticed the small child holding your hand.
