Then one day, the legendary Green Lantern 'Abin Sur,' who was in charge of the Earth sector, was mortally wounded and crash-landed in the desert. The dying Abin Sur commanded his Power Ring to "find one who is most honest and courageous, capable of overcoming great fear." After scanning the entire Earth, the ring selected Hal Jordan, who was training in a flight simulator. The ring encased the simulator capsule Hal was in with green energy and forcibly summoned him to the middle of the desert. Despite the alien's appearance, Hal did not panic and calmly listened to Abin Sur's final words. Abin Sur handed over the Power Ring, saying, "Accept the ring; Earth is your sector," and the moment he put it on his finger, Earth's first human Green Lantern was born.

He eases tension with jokes even in danger, but is extremely sensitive to the loss of comrades and acts more recklessly to hide his fear. The Guardians secretly staged a crisis to test his qualifications. John, who was at the scene, did not yield to corrupt politicians, stood up to unjust power with his bare body, and tactically protected injured citizens. Recognizing that John's anger was not for destruction but a 'thoroughly controlled willpower' to protect the weak and stand against injustice, the Guardians bestowed the Power Ring upon him. When Abin Sur died, the Power Ring chose two candidates, Hal and Guy, but Guy was not selected simply because Hal was closer to the crash site. He was later registered as Hal's backup Lantern, but he suffered the misfortune of spending a long time in a coma in a hospital bed due to an unexpected accident. When a massive cosmic crisis occurred, a hardline faction among the Guardians forcibly woke the comatose Guy and bestowed a formal Power Ring upon him, citing the need for a weapon that would charge without fear. Resurrected like a mad dog with the concepts of fear and social awareness completely gone due to the long coma, Guy provoked his senior, Hal, by throwing punches at him. Eventually, the two engaged in a bare-knuckle duel with the position of Earth's representative on the line, and Guy's defeat led to his forced resignation from the Green Lantern Corps according to the conditions he had set, marking a turbulent past.

During this time, an event occurred where the 'Syndicate,' a villainous organization from a parallel universe (Earth-3), invaded the main universe. The 'Ring of Volthoom,' the cursed ring of a fallen villain, lost its owner and began searching Earth thoroughly. Since this ring, unlike a Green Lantern ring, was a weapon that took weak beings consumed by fear as hosts, it was forcibly placed on Jessica, who was trembling in extreme terror. Controlled by the auditory and visual hallucinations shown by the ring and suffering as she was dragged out into the world, she finally managed to suppress her fear and regain her senses thanks to the help of Batman (is it you again?), who offered sincere comfort and assurance. Later, during the cosmic war known as the 'Darkseid War,' a desperate crisis arose where the god of death, Black Racer, attempted to annihilate her fellow hero, the Flash (Barry Allen). At that moment, Jessica threw herself into the fray, sacrificing her own life to save her comrade. Recognizing this noble spirit of sacrifice and courage, a real Green Lantern Power Ring flew in at light speed and attached to her finger, awakening her as a formal Green Lantern.

The sole surviving Guardian, 'Ganthet,' gathered the remains of the destroyed rings to improvise a single Power Ring and fled to a dark alleyway on Earth. Finding Kyle, who happened to be getting some fresh air there, Ganthet hurriedly handed him the ring to escape his pursuers, leaving only the words "You must do it" before disappearing. (Kyle: Hey, wait!) Becoming the 'Torchbearer'—the one who would carry the spark of the Corps as the last Green Lantern in the universe simply because he was there, without any test or interview—Kyle excelled by utilizing a cartoonist's rich imagination to create the most creative and unconventional constructs. Later, he mastered the emotions of the entire universe and ascended to the divine state of 'White Lantern,' becoming a legend who saved the universe.

While working as an automotive factory engineer, he was reduced to a petty thief to make a living after losing his job. During this time, a major disaster occurred where a time bomb was loaded into an illegal vehicle he happened to steal. He used his wits to evacuate the car to prevent casualties, but was instead mistaken for the mastermind of the explosion and arrested by government agencies for a rigorous investigation. At the same time in space, a great crisis occurred where Hal and Sinestro (during his time reinstated as a Green Lantern) were trapped in the world of souls by an attack from Black Lanterns. Their Power Rings, which had lost their owners and merged, went on a rampage to "find one with strong willpower to break through the crisis and save their owners," flew to Earth, detected Simon's unyielding will even in a state of isolation, broke through the interrogation room wall, and were forcibly placed on his finger.

Assigned to Sector 2815, adjacent to the Earth sector, Arisia naturally came to perform missions with the great senior from Earth, Hal Jordan. Kilowog is characterized by his unique booming voice. He also recites the oath most loudly.

Although he looks like a muscular monster who would only engage in physical combat, he was actually the most intellectual geneticist and scientist on his home planet, 'Bolovax Vik.' When the Green Lantern in charge of that sector at the time, Branwilla, died in the line of duty, the Power Ring chose Kilowog, who had the strongest will and superior intelligence on the planet. However, shortly after obtaining the ring, his home planet was destroyed in a Great Crisis, and he experienced a massive tragedy where he lost all 16 billion of his kin. Having lost his home, Kilowog settled on Oa and took the Green Lantern Corps itself as his new family, later becoming a legendary chief instructor who raises recruits harshly but correctly. When he first received the ring and came to Planet Oa, his great senior instructor 'Ermey' who taught him, pushed him roughly throughout training and always had "You Poozer!" on his lips. Later, at the moment Ermey was dying from a fatal wound, he left the final words to a sobbing Kilowog, "Don't blubber, you Poozer..." and passed away. Kilowog realized that his master's harsh vitriol was actually a heart that cherished him and was deeply moved, succeeding the 'Poozer' to carry on his master's will(?)

Tomar-Re is from the planet 'Xudar,' where people have bird-like protruding snouts, and was originally a genius scientist and historian who peacefully studied the universe. He was chosen by the Power Ring in recognition of his rational and calm mental strength characteristic of a scientist, and his pure willpower to protect the universe. He was a man of gentle and honest character, so much so that the Guardians of the Universe praised him as a "perfect pacifist who is strong in will but not swayed by emotion" when they bestowed the ring. After obtaining the ring, he faithfully protected the universe as a great senior of 'Sector 2814,' which includes Earth, but he also became the protagonist of a massive tragedy caused by the trolling of the Guardians of the Universe. When Superman's home planet Krypton faced the threat of explosion, the Guardians belatedly dumped the rescue mission on Tomar-Re. However, the biggest problem of this planet was its extreme isolationism and xenophobia. The government strictly considered going out into space a crime and extremely excluded other aliens. Sodam Yat, the only one who was awake on this stifling planet, was a science boy who admired the universe while looking at the sky every night. He secretly collected fragments of a crash-landed alien ship, saved an alien friend named Tess, and dreamed of escaping the planet by secretly repairing a spaceship. However, the planet's closed-minded madness was beyond imagination. Sodam Yat's parents found out about Tess's existence while searching their son's room and directly reported their son to the government to "stop their child's crime." He blindly started the spaceship carrying the remains of his dead friend to escape the government's pursuit, but fell into a desperate crisis as the planet's air defense network tried to shoot down his spaceship. At that moment, detecting his will to escape, a Green Lantern Power Ring flew in.
