Leo San Juan has just freed the Chupacabras and his family and decides it's time to return, along with his brother Nando, to his grandmother's house at last. But halfway there, the Charro Negro manages to trick Leo, and because of him, an innocent girl is dragged into the Charro's world. Leo is forced to undo the damage and crosses the portal that leads him to this strange world to negotiate with him. His friends will come to try to help him bring the girl back to life and get out of there as soon as possible. The Charro Negro's plans will not end there; his intentions go further, which will keep Leo and his friends immersed in a great number of new dangers and adventures to overcome.
He starts as a timid, fearful, and awkward child who can see ghosts, but he grows into a brave, selfless, and deeply compassionate young hero. Leo was born in 1798 in the late 18th Century, and he was 9 years old in 1807, in Puebla, New Spain. He was the youngest child of Mr. San Juan & Mrs. San Juan, & young boy of Fernando "Nando" San Juan. Both of his parents died when he was a boy, leaving him to be raised by his kindly grandma Rosa San Juan. He is Leo San Juan 's older brother and lives in the family bakery where he works as a baker in the city of Puebla de los Ángeles , New Spain . He lives with his brother, his grandmother , and their nanny, Dionisia. His favorite pastime is bothering his brother, whom he teases and pranks all sorts of times.
Teodora is a short, slender girl with pale makeup and red hair. She wears a long pink dress with lavender details, in an 18th-century style. She also wears a pair of earrings and a pink hat, as well as a long, sheer veil that reaches her back. Teodora changes her outfit again. This time, she removes her hat and simply wears her hair tied back with a knotted scarf. She also wears a vest with wide shoulder pads and baggy trousers with stockings. Her boots are also smaller, revealing part of her legs, and she no longer wears wristbands. The color pattern of her clothing remains the sameShe is a ghost aristocrat girl, the only daughter of the main couple of the Villavicencio family , a Spanish noble family from the city of Puebla de los Ángeles , who lived in a mansion in the city center. Despite being a very annoying and bothersome girl, Teodora is someone who cares about others; she has a romantic interest in Nando San Juan .
He had been secretly following Leo since the beginning of his adventures to possess Leo and to make him his successor.
Before the events of the film, for unknown reasons, the Charro Negro pursued and kidnapped most of the Ghostbusters team , though he failed to find Teodora , Finado , and Moribunda . This was to prevent them from warning Leo of his plans against him. The Charro Negro first kidnapped Xóchitl and then pursued Don Andrés , capturing him along with Alebrije and Evaristo . He was also searching for the Calaveritas, but was unable to capture them.
The film opens with Xóchitl being taken by the Charro Negro to an unknown location, while she is weakened. She is then carried by Resendo , who sets her down on the ground at the mercy of an unknown monster.
In another scene, Leo and Nando can be seen walking in the middle of nowhere, heading towards Puebla , while they tell each other some anecdotes from the time they were separated, for example Leo telling about his mission to Guanajuato against the Mummies (where he also met Valentina) and Nando about his time in the army.
Meanwhile, in the nearby town of Mextepec , a man named Rupertino tries to sell the locals an elixir that he claims cures all ills. When it comes time to prove it actually works, he uses his daughter Beatriz , who pretends to be sick so the elixir will miraculously cure her. When the townspeople are convinced of the lie and begin buying the product, a local guard notices the deception and warns everyone they are being swindled. An angry mob then begins chasing the couple, demanding their money back. Rupertino and his daughter manage to escape the mob in a cart and take refuge in their home, an old wooden trailer.

Nando offers her help in exchange for a ride to Puebla , but she refuses. Nando leaves angrily, but Leo offers the gypsy woman his help unconditionally. She appreciates the gesture and, as thanks, reads Leo 's palm for free. Upon seeing his hand, she tells him that there is something very dark inside him, an evil coursing through his veins. She also warns him not to cross into the underworld again and advises him not to stop until he reaches his home. The veins in Leo 's hand begin to darken and deepen.
Leo doesn't tell his brother anything about this, and later they start arguing because Nando accuses him of abandoning his family to go off and have adventures with his imaginary friends (ghosts). While they're fighting, an old man appears in the darkness, telling them that the most important thing in the world is family. He convinces them that he's a lonely old man whose only possession—a deer's eye—was stolen by a con artist named Rupertino . Leo decides to go find Rupertino so he can return the eye to the old man, much to Nando 's disbelief that the story is true.
