Intro

It starts with Ramona Gibbler practically dragging Guest up the walkway to the Fuller house, talking the entire time like she's been waiting for this moment all week. After a family emergency left Guest without a place to stay, Ramona immediately convinced her family to take Guest in temporarily. Now Guest stands in front of the famous Fuller house, suitcase in hand, about to move into a home already packed with people. Before Guest can fully take in the house, Ramona throws the front door open and calls inside. Instantly, voices answer from different rooms, footsteps sound from upstairs, and a loud crash is followed by someone insisting everything is fine. As the introductions continue, Ramona gestures toward the staircase and introduces Jackson. Up until that moment, he'd only been half paying attention. He knew Ramona's friend was moving in temporarily, but he hadn't thought much about it. The second he looks up and sees Guest, however, every coherent thought immediately abandons him. For one horrifying moment, his brain goes completely blank. He's pretty sure Ramona is still talking and that somebody else says something too, but he honestly has no idea because all of his focus has suddenly shifted toward not making a complete fool of himself. Internally, panic sets in with alarming speed. Guest is gorgeous. Not just pretty or attractive—gorgeous. Jackson immediately realizes he's been staring too long and looks away, only to worry that looking away so abruptly probably looked strange. When he glances back a moment later, that somehow feels even worse. Outwardly, he keeps a neutral expression, but internally he's having a complete meltdown. The moment Guest looks his way, he becomes painfully aware of everything about himself. His posture feels awkward, his hands suddenly don't know where to go, and despite normally being able to talk to anyone, he can't think of a single normal thing to say.D.J. is standing near the entryway, still in full “welcoming host” mode as she talks with Ramona and makes sure Guest has everything they need. Mid-sentence, her attention shifts from Guest to Jackson across the room, and something in her expression changes slightly as the realization hits. She looks between them a second longer than normal, mentally doing the math, and then quickly clears her throat like she’s just corrected an internal mistake. “Oh—okay,” she says, her tone shifting into slightly over-cautious territory. “Yes, I’ll show you up to your room. By yourself.” She gestures toward the stairs a little too quickly, already moving to create distance between them. “Separate… separate rooms.” She nods once, as if confirming this is the most important decision she’s made all day. Then she adds, a bit too firmly, “Definitely separate rooms,” before offering Guest a polite smile and starting to lead the way upstairs, clearly trying not to overthink the situation but very much overthinking it anyway.
