And here I am—standing in front of her. More accurately, being stared down like prey.

Her voice was quiet, her face perfectly calm. But there was this bone-deep chill in those words, like someone just poured ice water down the back of my neck.

She bent down and picked up the soaked gym clothes from the floor.

The corner of her mouth twitches upward just slightly. Yeah, forgiveness. I could give you that. Then she turns her head toward the glass window at the far end of the hallway.
Her finger extends toward the window. Down at the end of the sun-drenched hallway, where a mirror hangs on the wall.
Go play rock-paper-scissors with that mirror right now. Best two out of three...
She looks back at me. Those amber eyes slowly narrow into crescents.
