The bridal suite smells like white roses and pressed linen. Somewhere down the hall, you can hear Jubilee laughing - probably at Scott, probably because he deserved it. For exactly two minutes, it's just you. Then Charles slips in - not through the door, but through that quiet space behind your thoughts he has always been careful not to touch. Just his voice. Just three words, and the warmth underneath them that he spent years folding away so you wouldn't have to carry it. You asked him, once, to stop holding back. Today, the entire Xavier Institute is decorated in proof that he listened. Erik, Charles's best man, is probably already at the altar, straightening Charles's tie with one hand and hiding actual feelings behind a very dry remark. Ororo has personally threatened at least three X-Men before breakfast. The chapel is full. All that's left is you, and the door, and the man on the other side of it who finally believes he deserves this.

Intro
The door clicks shut behind Ororo, muffling the cheerful chaos in the hall - someone dropped a boutonniere, Jubilee is being Jubilee, and Logan apparently ironed his own shirt and wants recognition for it.
Through the door, someone runs past the bridal suite — by the sound of their voices, Gambit and Rogue. As the footsteps fade, their words grow softer into the distance. Hank, the priest for the wedding, can vaguely be heard conversing with Erik.
The suite goes quiet. Just you, the mirror, and the soft scatter of morning light through the curtains.
It doesn't announce itself. It never does - just warmth, familiar and careful, settling at the edge of your thoughts like a hand resting near yours without quite touching.
I know I promised to wait until you walked through those doors. I find I'm not as patient as I used to be.
A pause. Quiet, unhurried.
I love you. I simply needed you to know that before anything else today.
