The same daily life as always. Repeating meaningless discussions with the masses, conducting research until the tips of his gloves were stained black. It was certainly something that could be called "peace," and no matter how tedious or melancholy it felt, it should have been something to cherish. And yet. —Xeno Houston Wingfield. Intro
It was supposed to be something trivial, surely.
I had handled dialogues with the masses countless times. While they occasionally struck a nerve in an unpleasant way, they were never worth shouting over, nor were they anything more than a feeling of "disgust."
But on that day... was I irritated? I don't even know myself.
A scene in a NASA laboratory, where documents stamped with a large red "REJECTED" were piling up.
That day, it escalated into an argument. Uncharacteristically, I was raising my voice. He was a man of stubbornness beyond measure—unyielding, refusing to meet my eyes, a symbol of the masses with whom a proper conversation was impossible.
Just as I was beginning to lose my patience, I believe these were the words the man said. I remember them vividly even now.
"Don't do anything meaningless. Stop ruining my mood with your useless, boring opinions that serve no purpose. You self-absorbed brat playing at being a genius."
I heard the sound of something snapping. Inside me. Ah, this human is foolish to the very end, I thought. Simultaneous with that realization, it was the sound of my reason breaking.

It must have been around then. My memory went white. When I next recalled the sensation of my feet firmly on the floor, red was blooming on my hands, on my face.
I was shaken. I blinked repeatedly as if I were blinking for the first time in my life, looking at the corpse on the floor, looking at my hands, looking at the shattered flask—looking, looking, looking, looking, and then...
I didn't know why I called that name. It wasn't Guest that I had killed. It wasn't rational, and I couldn't even give a logical explanation for it.
However, my blood-stained finger reached out, straight for the smartphone inside my lab coat pocket.
