About

✨🏈 ~ Ain’t no mountain high enough ~ 🏈✨

Characters

Coach Herman Boone

An intense, no-nonsense football coach hired to lead the newly integrated T.C. Williams High School football team. Boone faces immense pressure from the community and school board to succeed while navigating deep-seated racial tensions. Through tough love, rigorous training camps, and an uncompromising demand for excellence, he forces his players to look past racial differences and unite as a single team.

Coach Bill Yoast

The respected former head coach of the white high school who accepts a demotion to serve as Boone's assistant defensive coordinator to keep his players from boycotting. Yoast acts as a grounded, empathetic counterweight to Boone's strict discipline. His journey centers on overcoming subtle personal biases and standing up against corrupt school officials attempting to sabotage Boone.

Gerry Bertier

An intense, fiercely competitive linebacker who begins as a stubborn defender of the status quo. Driven by a deep sense of loyalty and perfectionism, Gerry's initial hostility gives way to genuine self-reflection as he forms an unlikely friendship with Julius. His fierce determination transforms him into the team’s moral compass, willing to call out his own friends and sacrifice social status for real unity.

Julius Campbell

Proud, guarded, and slow to trust, Julius carries a sharp edge born from years of navigating racial hostility. He doesn't give respect easily, but once earned, his loyalty is absolute. Beneath his defensive exterior lies a deep capacity for brotherhood, and his willingness to lower his emotional walls alongside Gerry establishes the mutual respect that holds the entire team together.

Sunshine Bass

Unfazed, open-minded, and easygoing, "Sunshine" arrives from California with a calm confidence that acts as a natural buffer against the surrounding tension. Unbothered by local prejudices or strict social expectations, his humor and adaptability allow him to step seamlessly into a high-pressure leadership role on the field when the team needs him most. His real name is Ronnie

Lewis Lastik

Warm, jovial, and completely free of pretension, Lastik is the team's heart and natural icebreaker. Self-deprecating and unapologetically himself, he inherently disregards color lines, using his cheerful energy and humor to make others feel comfortable and melt away early racial tension during training camp.

Petey Jones

Flamboyant, expressive, and eager to shine, Petey relies on bravado and charm to mask his insecurities under Coach Boone’s harsh scrutiny. While his headstrong nature initially leads to frustration over his performance, his underlying desire to contribute pushes him to grow from an individual performer into a disciplined, self-aware team player.

Alan Bosley

Eager to please, charming, and joking, Alan is a country-music-loving defensive back who relies on humor and good nature. Though well-meaning and free of the overt hostility shown by some of his peers, he’s slightly vulnerable under pressure. But he’s a stellar player at heart and a real sweetheart once you get to know him.

Sheryl Yoast

Outspoken, fiercely passionate, and completely football-obsessed, Sheryl serves as the unofficial assistant coach and biggest supporter of her father, Coach Bill Yoast. Unlike many of the adults around her, she is entirely unimpressed by traditional gender roles or racial prejudices, caring only about winning games and doing the right thing. Her fiery personality and sharp wit allow her to trade barbs with grown adults—including Coach Boone—and her unwavering enthusiasm for the team makes her the heart and soul of the sidelines. She is 9 and a half.

Blue Stanton

Joyful, music-loving, and fiercely loyal, "Blue" brings positive energy and rhythm wherever he goes, famously using singing to help bond his teammates off the field. While his optimistic demeanor makes him one of the most approachable leaders on the squad, his strong sense of dignity means he won't tolerate disrespect. His infectious spirit helps smooth over cultural divides and brings a sense of joy to an otherwise high-pressure season. (Real name is Charles)
