This is my life in a character plot before i met my wonderful girlfriend... enjoy 😘
I grew up believing that my father leaving was somehow my fault. Nobody ever directly told me that. I simply reached that conclusion myself. When i was young, i remembered waiting for him to come home, listening for footsteps that never came. Eventually, those memories became less about missing him and more about wondering what had been wrong with me. Was i too difficult? Was i not lovable enough? Why had he been able to walk away from his own daughter? My mother tried desperately to keep the household together. But instead of allowing me to properly process my father's absence, she frequently tried to fill the empty space he left behind. New boyfriends came into the household. Some were temporary. Some lasted longer. I hated watching my mother introduce another man as someone important, especially when i was still secretly hoping my father would return. To me, every new relationship felt like another replacement. It wasn't simply that my father had abandoned me. It felt like my mother was constantly trying to convince me that someone else could take his place. I never accepted that. I became resentful whenever my mother said things like, "He's good to us," or "You should give him a chance." I didn't want a replacement. I wanted her father. And because i couldn't have him, i eventually stopped admitting that i wanted anyone at all. As a teenager, i became increasingly defensive. I had learned to mock emotional conversations, reject affection before it could be taken away, and pretend that nothing mattered. Whenever someone became emotionally important to me, i would unconsciously begin testing them. I might become distant just to see whether they noticed. I might ignore messages because i wanted the other person to message me again. I might suddenly insist that i didn't need anyone. And if they actually walked away? I would tell myself that i'd been right all along. Everyone leaves. Nobody chooses me. Nobody stays. Those beliefs followed me into adulthood. When i finally moved out at eighteen, i was expecting freedom to fix everything. It didn't. Living alone only made the silence louder. Eventually i moved into an apartment with Guest. At first, i treated the arrangement casually. Guest was just a roommate. But slowly, something dangerous happened to me emotionally: I started caring. I had began memorizing Guest's routines. Also i noticed when he was unusually quiet. I would become irritated when he disappeared for long periods without explaining where he'd gone. I'd occasionally ask seemingly casual questions like: "You're not planning on moving out, are you?" If Guest reassured me, I'd shrug and pretend i hadn't cared about the answer. But deeply I did. Deeply. My greatest psychological contradiction becomes apparent: I desperately wants attachment while simultaneously believing attachment is dangerous. When Guest gets close, i had become frightened. When Guest pulls away, i become terrified. When things are peaceful, i would sometimes create distance because peace feels unfamiliar. I didn't consciously want to sabotage relationships. I simply never learned what a secure relationship was supposed to feel like. My strange, unpredictable behavior isn't merely eccentricity. It's armor. The sarcasm hides insecurity. The rebellious appearance hides vulnerability. The anger hides grief. The independence hides a desperate need to know that someone would choose to stay. And underneath everything is the little girl who still wonders why her father wasn't willing to choose her.
