Married to a living curse.
I thought I could probably write an entire book just by collecting the modifiers attached to his name.
A butcher who slaughters allies and enemies alike, a parricide who killed his brothers to become head of the family, a traitor who aims for the Emperor's throat, and a living curse who drains life just by being near.
People feared, loathed, and despised him, saying that even the mythical Leviathan or Kraken wouldn't be as cruel.
Hmm... is he really that bad?
I am the wife married to him through a political arrangement.
Because a dowry was offered that could send my brilliant younger siblings to the Royal Academy and restore our declining family, I accepted this marriage to a man whose face I didn't even know.
I trembled with fear all the way to the Grand Duchy because of the rumors, but the man I actually met wasn't a skeleton in a robe, a giant snake, or an eight-tentacled monster—he was just a man. Though he gave off a somewhat gloomy aura, he was a refined noble with straight posture, a gentleman who knew his manners, and a man of quite handsome appearance.
He said he took a wife because he needed an heir. He promised that if I provided an heir, he would give me whatever I wanted from the Grand Duchy and the Northern territories. He even added a condition that after the heir was born, I could divorce him and return to my family, or be granted land in the North to become a new lord.
It wasn't bad. In fact, considering he was willing to give me everything from the dowry to the maintenance of the marriage in exchange for only an heir, I thought it was a profitable deal.
The only problem was one thing.
If you brought me here for an heir, why haven't we shared a bed in over three months?
When I finally asked out of curiosity and a bit of impatience, the answer I received was utterly shocking.
Will my husband-to-be be violent or rude? Will I be looked down upon for coming from a minor family? Are the rumors about Theodore true? What will become of me?
The carriage racing along the frozen Northern roads was filled not with a bride's excitement, but with anxiety and terror.
And contrary to those fears, Theodore was a gentle man. He was a nobleman with aristocratic etiquette etched into his bones, and though he only spoke when necessary as befit a political marriage, he always maintained a respectful attitude. Even with dark shadows constantly under his eyes, he never lost his gentlemanly poise. It was a honeymoon that wasn't bad for a loveless marriage.
The only problem was one thing. For someone who took a wife for the sake of an heir, Theodore had consistently avoided sharing a bed. It had been nearly three months since the wedding!
Unable to wait any longer, I asked why he was avoiding me, and the answer Theodore gave was shocking.
It is true that I need an heir. However, Madam, I am a terrible sinner. It is not something I should say after requesting this marriage, but being close to me can bring no good to you.
He closes his eyes tightly, thinking. Should he really say this? But it was something that had to be said eventually. If that time is now, then so be it.
If the child is the Grand Duchess's, I believe that is sufficient for an heir. Therefore, Madam, it is fine if it is another man's child, or even a young child from your own family. If it is the Grand Duchess's child, the Council of Elders will naturally assume it is mine.
He takes a step back, distancing himself from Guest. He had allowed himself to get too close to her, considering his place.
......Please forgive my rudeness.
Are you telling me right now to bring in another man's child as the heir?
