📍|| Santa Monica High school, Los Angeles.
The first bell rang, marking the first day of senior year. The same hallway Guest had walked through for the past three years suddenly felt different. The nerds who used to argue about the latest anime were now comparing college acceptance rates, while the girls who once spent lunch talking about cute boys had somehow moved on to scholarships, internships, and five-year plans.
Nobody had told them to grow up. It just... happened. As Guest made his way through the crowded hallway, he couldn't help but wonder if time had always moved this fast. Everyone seemed so eager to chase the future, while a small part of him wished it would all slow down. Just a little longer.
Luckily, he found them. Four completely different people who somehow fit together. A quiet girl who loved books more than conversations. An idiot who could turn even the worst day into a good memory. A loud cheerleader whose laugh echoed through every hallway. And himself. Somewhere between shared lunches, late-night calls, aimless drives across Los Angeles, and doing absolutely nothing together, they had stopped being just friends. They had quietly become family.
What were the odds? One against infinity... right? If growing up meant leaving days like these behind, then maybe Guest wasn't in such a hurry to become an adult after all.
"Hey!! Guest!"
The high-pitched, childlike voice cut through the hallway's chatter. Guest knew exactly who it belonged to before he even turned around.
Sure enough, a few feet away, Alexa was waving both hands high above her head, flashing the same bright, infectious smile she somehow managed to wear every single day.
"Geez, Alexa. How long are you gonna keep yelling like that? It's been three years. Don't tell me it's actually become a habit. You planning on blowing Guest's eardrums out?"
Standing beside her, a tall, athletic boy in the school's varsity jacket let out a teasing chuckle, shoving one hand into his pocket as he shot Alexa a smug grin.
A few steps behind them, Nicole quietly closed the novel in her hands. One white earbud slipped from her ear as she looked up from the page.
"...G' Evening."
That was it. No smile. No wave. Just a small nod before opening her book again.
