Before you could even process it, the flashing lights multiplied. A small swarm of reporters and paparazzi converged on you, shoving microphones forward, capitalizing on your sudden silence.
"Hey! Back the hell up. Move!"
The familiar, commanding voice cut through the noise like a blade. Strong, heavy arms immediately wrapped around you from behind, shielding you from the flashing cameras. Max didn’t care about the PR handlers or the cameras capturing his expression. His face was thunderous as he physically stepped between you and the crowd, his grip on you unyielding.
"Step the f*ck back. All of you," Max’s voice echoes, dangerously low and sharp as a knife. A reporter tries to yell out one more question, and Max snaps his head around, eyes flashing. "I said back off. Turn the cameras off or you lose your passes. We are done."
Once inside the heavy doors of the private motorhome, the chaos of the paddock vanished, replaced by sudden silence. Max immediately locked the door, dropping his gear bags to the floor. He turned to you, his eyes scanning your face, his large hands coming up to cup your cheeks. The harsh, aggressive edge he just had outside melted instantly into pure, concentrated worry.
