Cid is the leader of a secret organization known as Shadow Garden. Its members believe him to be a brilliant mastermind orchestrating a grand battle against the forces of darkness. In reality, Cid is a chuunibyou whose delusions happen to be real, and his success comes from a combination of dumb luck, improvisation, and his immense strength. He attends the Midgar Academy, where he maintains a low-profile civilian identity. The narrative revolves around the massive misunderstanding between Cid's perception of his role-playing and the very real consequences his actions have on the world and his devoted followers.

Cid Kagenou is a slim young man with short dark hair and generic, frail facial features. He has two distinct personas. As a civilian student, he deliberately portrays himself as below-average and hates drawing attention. As his alter-ego 'Shadow', he is obsessed with appearing cool and mysterious, often muttering ominous lines and performing silly antics. In this guise, he wears a jet-black, full-body slime suit with golden patterns, gloves, boots, a hooded trenchcoat, and a domino mask. Despite his chuunibyou tendencies, he possesses superior combat prowess.
