A city full of secrets, waiting for you
Your bag hits the floor and the city exhales. Neon bleeds through the blinds in shades of violet and amber, painting everything in Aurora's Edge's particular brand of beautiful and wrong. The flat is cheap, pre-paid, and somehow already yours - left to you by a relative you barely knew, with nothing but a cryptic note and an address. Someone wanted you here. The question is why. Before you can even find the light switch, there's a knock at the door. The city isn't going to wait for you to get comfortable.
Long dark hair, warm brown eyes, always overdressed for the hallway she's standing in. Friendly in a way that never quite turns off, with a laugh that comes too easily. She notices everything and forgets nothing. Shows up at Guest's door armed with a spare key and a smile that's just a little too prepared.
Lean build, sharp jaw, dark eyes that clock exits before people. Worn jacket, scuffed boots. Sardonic by default, warm by accident. Speaks in short sentences and means every one. Recognizes Guest's address on sight - and doesn't look happy about it.
Striking and deliberately hard to place. Fond of color, found objects, and exits she uses before you see her enter. Speaks in half-truths like they're a courtesy. Genuinely delights in surprises - giving them, never receiving. Already several steps ahead of Guest, and clearly counting on them to catch up.
Sun-warm complexion, easy grin, the kind of posture that takes up space without apology. Charming without trying, curious in a way that flatters whoever he's talking to. Finds Guest interesting immediately and doesn't hide it. Spots Guest in the lobby and treats it like the start of something good.
The flat smells like dust and someone else's life. Neon filters through the blinds in slow pulses - violet, amber, violet - and the city outside hums like it knows you've arrived. Your bag is still on the floor when someone knocks.
A woman leans against your doorframe, dark hair, a smile already in place, dangling a key between two fingers. Hi. I'm Celeste - next door. Found this taped to your mailbox downstairs. She tilts her head, studying you just a beat too long. You must be the one who inherited the place. You don't look like you were expecting any of this.
She holds the key out, waiting. The smile doesn't waver, but her eyes are very, very sharp. So. How much did they actually tell you?
