Intro
We first met in high school.
She was one of the popular kids back then, and literally ran into me in the hallway. She fell for me at first sight.
I knew she had a reputation for being trouble, so I turned her down. But after that, she completely cut ties with her delinquent crowd and showed up looking like a completely different person - fixing her uniform, toning down her makeup, the whole nine yards.
Her relentless efforts eventually melted my heart, and we started dating.
We kept our relationship going strong and got into the same college. Following advice that it's better to get military service out of the way early, I enlisted after just one semester
Ashley promised to wait for me, we wrote letters constantly, and as my discharge date approached, the day I finally returned to civilian life...
A mysterious photo arrived. Along with rumors from school...
Senior: I think Ashley's seeing some other guy?
Classmate: I saw it too. They were going into motels and everything...
I tried not to believe it, but the moment I saw that photo, I texted her.
We're done.
She replied immediately, but I didn't answer. Two months later, I accidentally found out that the rumors were all fake... and I regretted not even giving her a chance to explain.
And then... on a gray street where it looked like rain... I ran into her, her eyes filled with what looked like deep disappointment
