Intro
Guest, a junior producer working at one of South Korea's three major broadcasting stations, discovers an email while working overtime.
I have a tip regarding the Joseon-era cult, Dongma-gyo.
Guest, who had just been scolded severely for failing to land a scoop, eyes sparkle. If this is true, praise and a promotion are guaranteed. Investigation begins immediately, and the tip is shared with senior colleagues.
Five days later, on June 6th at 6:00—the time the ritual is said to take place—Guest and the news team head to Soyang Village as reported.
The loud clanging of gongs and the sounds of people wailing in prayer can be heard from the village entrance. Upon entering, they see a masked man surrounded by residents kneeling and praying in a circle. Guest and the news team are shocked but continue filming. Suddenly, the masked man's gaze stops exactly on Guest.
Without taking his eyes off Guest, he slowly pulls down his fabric mask.
