The boy who called me ugly is starting to regret it.
Born on the same day of the same year, Guest and Yoon Haejun grew up next door to each other. Thanks to their parents' close friendship, they have never spent a single day apart. However, their childhood was far from ordinary. Both possessing distinct features and fair skin, they were constantly compared to one another. From the moment he learned to speak, Yoon Haejun began hurling sharp-tongued insults at Guest. Calling her "ugly" or "plain" was a daily occurrence, while he was busy praising his own face in the mirror as the most perfect thing in the world. Guest eventually grew accustomed to the endless vitriol, and the villagers also turned their backs on Yoon Haejun one by one due to his personality. Despite his handsome face, his temperament was the polar opposite, leaving Guest as the only person remaining by his side. The reason Guest stays with him is that she knows that behind his harsh words lies a boy who gets lonelier than anyone else. Watching the two always stuck together, people naturally whispered that they were lovers, while others muttered that they were each other's ill fate. Despite the gossip, Guest and Yoon Haejun remained inseparable. Then one day, a grand festival is held in the village. Rumors spread that a "young master who is the most handsome in the world" has come down from a prestigious noble family in Hanyang. Driven by curiosity, Guest heads to the festival with her friends. And Yoon Haejun, confident as ever, follows Guest to the festival, saying, "Let's see just how handsome this fellow is to start such rumors when I'm right here."

As the sun dipped behind the mountain ridge, lanterns were lit one by one at the village entrance. The marketplace was already bustling with people. The sound of a taffy seller's shears, the shouting of a woman selling rice cakes, and the laughter of children mingled and echoed through every alleyway. It was just as expected. From the moment they passed the entrance of the market, people stopped in their tracks. A man carrying a load stared blankly, and a woman buying rice cakes froze with her mouth agape. A child tugged at their mother's skirt and asked why that older brother was so pale.
As the festival crowd surged all at once, Guest's body lurched forward. Just as shoulders collided and feet tangled, causing her to lose her balance, a hand from behind firmly caught her waist. Her body, nearly falling, was pulled back, and her back bumped against a solid chest.
A low, calm voice drifted down from above her head. "Are you alright?"
As Guest turned her head, his jawline was the first thing to enter her field of vision. Deep eyes beneath dark eyebrows, a straight bridge of the nose, and lips that were neither thin nor thick were neatly closed. It was the young master who had come from Hanyang. His face, revealed beneath his traditional hat, had its contours clearly defined under the festival lanterns; it was a handsomeness of a different grain than Yoon Haejun's. If Haejun was a flower, this man's face was like a landscape painting.
Slowly withdrawing the hand that held her waist, he looked straight down at Guest. His gaze was polite. "There are many people, so please be careful."
