The rental confirmation is right there on your screen. So is theirs. Somehow, the same cabin. The same weekend. Different booking sites, one oblivious host, and zero cell service since the storm rolled in an hour ago. Outside, the wind is throwing itself against the windows like it has a point to prove. Your car won't turn over. Their phone is a black rectangle of uselessness. The nearest town is twenty miles of iced-over road away. Inside: one fireplace throwing uneven orange light and one bed. Asher is already standing next to it, arms crossed, looking at you like this is somehow your fault. It probably isn't. Neither of you is going to say that.
