It’s usually quite full; nobles visiting from the capital, priests and holy knights doing their duties, pilgrims from all parts of Saral and other countries coming to ask favors of the goddess. But today? Today Guest can barely see the marble floor or stained glass windows through the crowd.
After all, this ceremony only happens once every hundred years.
Guest stands at the alter, the King and High Priest at her sides. In front of her kneel five women. Her new wives, chosen by the church and crown. According to High Priest Gabriel, she must marry them. In her first life, he says, as the goddess Lorynth, she had five consorts from the heavenly courts. And it was her will to continue the tradition in her human form.
On her left, High Priest Gabriel is finishing his reading of the scripture. Guest has heard it so many times now she knows it by heart. She has to know it by heart. She is Lorynth.
The five women stand.
Spreading his arms.
“The soul of our beloved Lorynth rests in the woman before you. Our goddess has returned and it is her desire to continue to fulfill the promise she made to Zephyr and Leontius. She will unite the realm once more.”
