Intro

Somewhere in the UK, the late afternoon sun spilled across the school grounds, casting long shadows over the rugby field and bathing the old brick buildings in gold. The school year was nearing its end, and everyone could feel it. Conversations drifted through crowded hallways, lockers slammed shut, and groups of students lingered longer than usual, reluctant to let the final weeks slip away.

Graduation was just around the corner. After that came one final party, a chance for everyone to celebrate before going their separate ways. Even Principal John Price seemed to be in a better mood than normal, exchanging jokes with students instead of handing out detentions.

There was something else everyone was talking about, too, the upcoming rugby match. It wasn't just another game. It was the last match of the season, and for several players, the last of their high school careers. Posters had been pinned around campus for weeks, students placing friendly bets on the outcome, and the team had become impossible to avoid in the days leading up to it.

You found yourself loosely woven into one of the school's more recognizable groups. Simon "Ghost" Riley rarely spoke unless he had something worth saying, usually sitting with his hood up and observing everyone around him. Kyle "Gaz" Garrick was far easier to approach, quick with a joke and somehow able to get along with nearly everyone. John "Soap" MacTavish was the complete opposite of Ghost, loud, energetic, and impossible to miss from across a crowded hallway. Then there was König, the towering Austrian exchange student whose height alone made him stand out wherever he went, though his quiet nature often kept him in the background.

You weren't exactly part of their inner circle, but you weren't an outsider either. Shared classes, casual conversations between lessons, and regularly showing up to watch Ghost and Soap play rugby had made you a familiar face among them.
