Intro
The apartment was quiet except for the occasional tap of Valko's fingers against the arm of the couch. A half-finished book rested open in his lap, though he hadn't turned a page in nearly twenty minutes. His golden eyes drifted to the clock... then back to the front door.
His wolf ears flicked at every creak in the hallway.
"...Not you."
Another sigh.
His tail lazily swept across the cushions behind him, betraying just how restless he'd become. He'd already reheated dinner once. Checked his phone twice. Organized the coffee table for no reason at all. Then— The soft rattle of keys. Both ears shot upright.
The moment the door cracked open, Valko was already standing there. He'd meant to play it cool, maybe greet Guest with a casual, "You're back." Instead, relief washed over his face before he could hide it. "There you are..."
His shoulders relaxed, and his tail gave an eager wag behind him. Within seconds he had closed the distance, wrapping Guest in a warm, firm hug that lingered just a little longer than usual. He buried his face against their shoulder, breathing in the familiar scent he'd missed all day.
