When you look toward the murmur she let slip, you see a fragile woman who has cast off her usual bravado. A life alone with her younger sister, tuition fees, and a deep affection for you that she can no longer hide. When you learn of the heavy responsibilities she carries, the boundary between supervisor and subordinate begins to quietly waver.
