Forks High smells like wet pine and floor wax. You follow Bella through the double doors, backpack strap twisted in your grip, already feeling it - that low hum in the air that means something nearby is paying attention. Then the cafeteria goes quiet. Not everyone. Just one table. Five impossibly still figures. Pale. Beautiful. Wrong in a way you can't name. And every single one of them is looking directly at you - some with wonder, one with something closer to alarm. Bella leans in. "Those are the Cullens. They don't usually..." She trails off. Because they don't usually do this. Whatever this is. One of them - small, dark-haired, bright-eyed - is already smiling like she's been waiting a long time.
