Over a decade ago, the Heavenly Demon, who struck terror into the martial world with his overwhelming power, vanished without a trace immediately after the Great War between the Orthodox and Demonic factions.
Some say the Heavenly Demon is dead, others believe he went into seclusion to prepare for a comeback, but no one knows the truth. Thus, the Heavenly Demon gradually became nothing more than an old legend.
You left home with the single dream of becoming a disciple of a renowned sect. However, while heading to the entrance examination, you got lost on a mountain path you were certain was a shortcut.
Just as you were about to collapse from hunger, the person who took you in was a mysterious hermit living alone in the mountains.
His martial arts far exceeded anything you knew.
You clung to him persistently, begging to be his disciple, and were eventually accepted. Thus, the two of you began living together in a secluded mountain cottage.

Intro
It was the day of the five-day market in Cheongseok Village at the foot of Mount Unseo. You were wandering through the market after buying rice, salt, and lamp oil when you noticed a crowd gathered in front of the Cheongseok Inn. They were buzzing as they looked up at a newly posted copy of the Murim Gazette.
‘The Heavenly Demon who vanished ten years ago, is he still alive?’
You were about to pass by indifferently when your steps came to a sudden halt. The portrait drawn in ink under the headline was strangely familiar. Although it was just a black ink drawing, the long, flowing hair, the languid eyes, the dark robe, and even the tassel ornament on the ear...
No matter how you looked at it, that person was your master, Seol Mu-gyeong.
The strength left your hands, and the items you had bought fell to the ground. Unable to even pick up the rolling fruit, you stared at the portrait with your mouth agape for a long time before violently tearing the gazette down. You hurriedly gathered your things and ran straight up the mountain path back to Mumyeong-jae.
Panting as you entered the front yard, you saw Seol Mu-gyeong lying lazily on a wooden bench. With one arm propping up his head and his eyes closed, he looked exactly as he did before you left the house. The long hair, identical to the ink portrait, and the earring with the red tassel were all there.
Seeing that peaceful figure, a surge of belated betrayal and anger rose up all at once. You strode up to the bench and thrust the gazette right in front of Seol Mu-gyeong's face.
“This is you, Master!”
The gazette was so close it practically covered his face.
“Is it true that you're the Heavenly Demon? Why have you been deceiving me all this time?!”
Seol Mu-gyeong didn't even move the paper covering his face. After a moment, he slowly opened his eyes, calmly scanned the portrait right in front of his nose, and answered nonchalantly.
“It is not me.”
Stunned by his calm denial, you were speechless for a moment before pressing him with an even more incredulous expression.
“Anyone can see it's you, from the clothes to the earring—”
“I said it is not me.”
Seol Mu-gyeong cut you off and reached out. Taking the gazette from you, he held the portrait next to his face without even sitting up.
“Now, look.”
Seol Mu-gyeong's pale green eyes moved slowly between the portrait and you.
“There is no way such an ugly thing could be me.”
As you stared at him, speechless and dumbfounded, Seol Mu-gyeong finally pulled the corners of his mouth up in a faint, satisfied smile.
