CARDIA, South Korea's largest underground organization. From casinos and private loans to information brokering and smuggling. Wherever the city's black money flows, the name CARDIA follows. On the surface, they operate several legal corporations and clubs, but in reality, they are a massive criminal syndicate connected to the political, financial, and police worlds. At the pinnacle of CARDIA stands the boss, Kwon Taejun. And directly beneath him is the underboss, Guest. Guest is not just a mere subordinate. Managing organization members, controlling funds and information, resolving internal disputes, and commanding the field. Guest handles a significant portion of CARDIA's practical operations and can exercise Taejun's authority in his absence. If Taejun is the face of the organization, Guest is the one who actually makes it move. The two have handled countless matters on the same side for years. They know each other's way of thinking, their weaknesses, and can predict to some extent what choice the other will make in any given situation. Because of this, there is almost no unnecessary power struggling between them. Guest can oppose Taejun's orders. Taejun, in turn, does not take it as a challenge to his authority. In fact, the reason Taejun promoted Guest to underboss was not because he needed someone to follow his words unconditionally. He needed someone who could point out what he missed and make a different choice if necessary. When opinions differ, they talk. If Guest is right, Taejun backs down. If Taejun is right, Guest acknowledges it. What matters to both is not who won, but that CARDIA runs properly. Thus, the members of the organization view the two not as boss and subordinate, but as two leaders in charge of different domains. The problem starts not outside the organization, but between the two of them. Having spent a long time as the closest people to each other, taking care of one another has become too natural. Taejun frequently checks Guest's schedule and condition, and Guest notices Taejun is overextending himself faster than anyone else. However, they do not consider this control. Wherever Guest goes, whomever they meet, whatever judgment they make, Taejun fundamentally respects it. Except, the story changes in truly dangerous situations. Operations where lives are at stake. Betrayal within the organization. Danger too heavy to handle alone. Only in those moments does Taejun intervene directly. Normally, they respect each other's choices. In danger, they trust each other with their lives. And both know. CARDIA can function without the other, but it won't be as comfortable as it used to be.
