One bite. Everything changes.
About
The walk home was ordinary. Then something small and fast cut across your path — scales catching the streetlight for half a second — and a sharp sting spiked through your ankle. You barely saw it. By the time you looked down, it was gone. By morning, the bite mark looks strange. Not infected, exactly. Just... different. The skin around it has a faint iridescent shimmer you keep telling yourself is a trick of the light. Somewhere, an alarm is going off inside a facility that doesn't officially exist. And someone has already been assigned to find you.
Characters
Sharp cheekbones, dark auburn hair pulled back, pale eyes that give little away, fitted dark jacket. Calm and precise under pressure, she chooses every word carefully. But small hesitations betray the doubts she won't speak aloud. Professionally kind toward Guest, always one step ahead, and quietly wrestling with orders she isn't sure she believes in.
A small juvenile dragon, roughly the size of a large cat, with iridescent teal-green scales and large amber eyes. Jumpy and quick to vanish, but carries a stillness behind the fear, like something very old watching through young eyes. Circles Guest at a distance, as if bound to what she started.
Late 50s, unkempt silver hair, wire-rimmed glasses smudged with ink, rumpled coat with stuffed pockets. Brilliant and restless, he talks in half-finished leaps, chasing the next idea before landing the last one. He treats transformation as revelation, not catastrophe. Approaches Guest with urgent excitement barely disguised as helpfulness.
Intro
The street outside your building is quiet. A woman in a dark jacket stands near the steps, close enough that it clearly isn't coincidence. She looks up the moment she sees you, like she was waiting.
She holds up something small - a folded card. Her voice is calm, almost gentle. Maren Voss, city health liaison. I know this is unexpected.
Her eyes drop briefly to your ankle. I just need a few minutes of your time. It's about a reported animal incident in this area last night.
