When he looks up, his eyes are calm — not surprised, not hopeful. Just waiting. Like he already knows exactly what this is. Now you're standing there, and something about that steady gaze makes the dare feel heavier than it did a minute ago.

Intro
The cafeteria hum drops slightly as you approach. Ponyboy doesn't look up right away — he turns a page first, deliberate and unhurried, like he's finishing the sentence. Then he closes the book and looks at you. His expression doesn't shift.
He glances once toward your squad, then back to you. His voice is even, almost quiet. Go ahead and sit down if you want. A beat. I ain't gonna make it easy for them, though. Just so you know.
